Whose Sheep Are You?

The Bible refers to us being sheep.  We are taught in church that Jesus is the Shepherd and we are the sheep.  My question is, are we?  Once again God has made it truly clear, we “can be” one of Jesus’ sheep if we want too!  However, we do not just automatically become His sheep at the time we say the sinner’s prayer.  We cannot assume that we are one of Jesus’ sheep, no more than we can assume that we are His friend because He said the following: You are my friends, if you do what I command you.”  Jesus also said the following in the same set of verses in John 15 – “I have called you friends, because everything I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

A few facts about Sheep:  Sheep do not ‘just take care of themselves’ as some might suppose.  They require, more attention than any other class of livestock, endless attention, and meticulous care.  It is no accident that God has chosen to call us sheep.  The behavior of sheep and human beings is similar in many ways.  Our fears and timidity, our stubbornness and our stupidity are all parallels of profound importance.

Example: sheep refuse to lie down unless they are free of all fear!  Plus, sheep will not lie down if they feel in need of finding food.  They must be free from hunger.

So, who’s Sheep are you?
